I am currently teaching CSC412 (Probabilistic Methods of Machine Learning) in the department of Computer Science at University of Toronto.
Before that I lead the “Science” (ML Science + ML Eng + ML Ops) team at Semantic Health, where I was the first employee. Over a couple of years we grew the Machine Learning product from a set of ideas to numerous pipelines supporting multiple business lines. As we grew, my role has gradually shifted from being primarily an IC at to a lead posision. I am particularly proud of the long term ML vision we have at Semantic, processes we have developed to ensure we hire great people, team culture, ever-improving tech stack and code-base, processes to support quality code and model development, and our contiuous planning / roadmapping process.
I also occasionally teach at University of Toronto (most recently STA414/2104) where I completed both my degrees. Interested in all things machine learning, with a particular focus on good practices, and applications in high stakes environments (e.g. healthcare). Outside of work and school, I geek out on permaculture/agriculture, and the whole chain of food to metabolism, including growing (whatever you can in a condo), cooking, and burning the calories while running on Toronto waterfront trails.
